DuSense give technical guidance to Bits Pilani Dubai Campus degree UAE students in the application of strain gauges to construct a functional dynamometer.

Weeks spent pouring over Strain Gauge catalogues and numerous technical manuals can be large consumption of valuable time for a group of enthusiastic mechanical engineering students who need to quickly get results from their unique dynamometer design to demonstrate its repeatability and accuracy as a force measurement device.

This group from Bits Pilani Dubai Campus used their initiative to locate and contact Mike Shaw our Strain Gauging guru to seek his advice and guidance on their application.

Details

At the Hail University site in Saudi Arabia the Main Contractor was concerned about performing SLT (Static Load Tests) in an area where the piles were already very congested, concern was expressed by the foundation designer that performing essential Working Pile tests by the SLT reaction-pile method might be detrimental to the structural performance of the building foundations.

After discussion with DuSense the consultant has accepted to use of the Super-Cell BDSL method due to its especially non-intrusive characteristic where load testing can be satisfactorily completed using a non-destructive or non-detrimental technique. It is generally accepted by Structural Engineers that the full bearing capacity of a working pile can be recovered, or very nearly, when load tested by the Bi-Directional Method with Super-Cell.

4 nos 1000mm dia Pile were tested using the Super-Cell Ring Cell© method, the piles were tested to 675tonnes (1.5 x Working Load).
The results of testing showed that the Equivalent Top Down Loaded settlements came well within their permitted levels.

The Super-Cell BDSL method is a new innovative method of testing piles which has numerous advantages over older methods. A comparison between the older and newer methods of testing piles can be downloaded at our website.

DuSense provide weighing systems for a multitude of different applications, from a single 100 kg cell with digital readout to a 1,000 tonne multi-channel system used for Silo Materials Weighing or Concrete Batching Plants, we have a solution to fit your requirements and your budget. Similar systems have been provided for weighing offshore fabricated modules of 20,000 tonne and more.
The photo above taken recently at our DIP Dubai office shows Abby our Sales Executive holding the Wireless Signal Conditioning Unit for a 6 channel 800 tonnes system we have recently supply to a UAE plastic processing factory. The central processor has its own built in local lit LCD display to aid service and maintenance which along with a Windows based software display system provide a very simple to use and operate solution for almost any load measurement or weighing application.
The load cells are fully stainless steel hermetically sealed, they’re high integrity with submersible IP 68 rating. Accuracy >0.023% of full range output.
The system can be easily expanded to 44 channels by addition of single module. It accepts inputs from any type of sensor and the software is extremely user friendly, the operators can readily modify the dis-plays to include Mimics and Trend Plots as desired.
This system is configured with standard Wi-Fi unit giving range of 25 metres however if you need to operate at 500 m or several km. distance we can provide.
